Octalarm Link

Octalarm Link is an additional licence that allows you to report large numbers of alarms via network-controlled alarms. This licence is suitable for the Octalarm-Touch Pro and is included as standard in ARA-Pro Next.

With network-controlled alarms, you can connect the alarm detector to, for example, feed and climate computers, SCADA systems, PLC systems or other process computers where monitoring is important. This allows you to receive detailed alarm notifications directly from your technical systems.

Network-controlled alarms for reporting large numbers of alarms

Network-controlled alarms involve sending alarm notifications from technical systems within a private network. Examples include feed and climate computers in intensive livestock farming, climate computers in horticulture, SCADA systems in the water sector, PLC systems in industry, and other process computers for critical technical processes.

Alarming via Octalarm Link (JSON REST API) makes it possible to automatically report large numbers of alarms. The alarm information provided by your system is forwarded as a voice message, app notification, text message or pager message. Alarms, including their associated priority, can be grouped into alarm categories. You can then link each category to its own handling procedure. This makes the Octalarm-Touch Pro easy to configure and fully automated from technical systems via the REST API.

Technology is only valuable when it is safe, stable and user-friendly. That is why we like to test our innovations in practice—preferably together with (future) end customers and installers. And so we are looking for pilot projects for this new connection between Siemens PLCs and Touch Pro (with Link licence). 

The PLC software module (JSON protocol) for Siemens PLCs was developed in TIA Portal V18, but can be converted to V17 and V16 if desired.

Requirements for participation

  1. Both an end customer and an installer are involved in the project.
  2. A PLC programmer is available. (If desired, we can put you in touch with an external party who is familiar with this link.)
  3. A test environment is preferred. If you are testing in a production environment, we strongly recommend running a redundant PLC.

Points to note during testing

  1. Programming the connection between the Siemens PLC and the alarm device (manual available).
  2. Installation and configuration of the alarm (manual available).
  3. Testing of the alarm handling: Siemens PLC → alarm dialler.
  4. Biweekly feedback session on:
    1. progress of the pilot;
    2. findings and areas for improvement.

Period

  1. Minimum test duration: 1 month.
  2. Desired test duration: 2 months.
